Imamat was given to two lineages in this iteration of the Earth. One of Ism3il and another of Ishaq. According to Ale Imran 3:33 and 3:34, Imamat has ran through from Adam to all the nations through covenants. Thus anyone who holds a covenant with Allah is an Imam if Allah wishes that person to lead a Qoum. A Qoum is a tribe that comprises of people united by faith and beliefs. Thus a Qoum is more like an order of chivalric fraternity or as we call it, Tariqat. Thus the Qoum or brotherhood is part of the Covenant and its leader is the Imam as called forth by Allah. The covenant with the children of Israel is extinct and thus Imams can only come from the children Ali ibn Abu Talib.

Who is called forth?

1. Anyone who has the Blood of the Pervious Imams. Imam Hassan or Hussein especially.
2. Who has A thorough knowledge of Quran and established philosophy of the Sunnah.

3. Has always felt a connection towards this duty within the Ummah.

4. Is willing to go to any lengths to Establish the religion of Allah as a political force.

5. Can lead the prayers and perform the duties that Prophet Muhammad performed during his lifetime except that which is exclusive to Prophethood. Khutbah of Jummah, 3idain and associated prayers.

6. Is well-versed in the internal political matters within the Ummah of his time.

7. A person who is aware of ritual worship, teaches spirituality actively and does not deny his spiritual superiority over others but also does not make show of it.

8. Is male, able-bodied, and usually under the age of 60.
9. Is active in encouraging Good and preventing Evil.

10. A person who follows the 4 Imams in characteristics after the Prophet Muhammad. Imam Ali, Hassan, Hussein and Imam Zayd bin Ali. Peace be upon them.

Such a person can be Imam and can lead a community as per their will after declaring his Imamat.

There can be more than 1 Imams and often they might go into conflict. Conflict is natural to the Earthly life and should be viewed positively.
It is necessary for people to give fealty to an Imam. Imamat is essential to performing Islam and without it a person can be Mumin, a believer but not Muslim.
